The ECSE community came together on December 13 to decorate the empty white construction wall in the Mercer XLab renovation on the 6th floor of the Jonsson Engineering Center.   Students, Staff, and Faculty let their creative sparks fly, and filled up the walls in every direction.    Robots were on hand to cheer the crowd on.  The Pepper Robot from Prof. Qiang Ji's lab chats up folks using chatGPT.  The UR 5 robot from Prof.

Congratulations to ECSE Ph.D. student Lisha Chen (https://lisha-chen.github.io), who has been recently awarded the prestigious IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) scholarship! She will also present tutorials on her thesis work at upcoming AAAI 2024 and ICASSP 2024.

The W2SZ Ham Radio club led a PIXIE radio kit building event on October 18th, 2023. Members worked in the Mercer in Xile lab - future activities such as this will be held in the Mercer lab, which is currently in renovation. This was a great first experience for those new to soldering and electrical engineering, and members who had more experience got a chance to improve their skills.

On September 10th, W2SZ Ham Radio Club members and our alumni community gathered at Mt. Greylock, MA, for an exciting day of radio enthusiasts' heaven - participating in the biannual QSO Contest. With 50-ft radio towers and two trucks loaded with equipment, we aimed to make as many contacts over the radio as possible for the contest.

On June 28, it was announced that Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will become the first university in the world to house an IBM Quantum System One. The IBM quantum computer, intended to be operational by January of 2024, will serve as the foundation of a new IBM Quantum Computational Center in partnership with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and GlobalFoundries (Nasdaq: GFS) (GF) launched a new higher education course to help address semiconductor industry education and workforce development needs. The course, Topics in Microelectronics Manufacturing, is targeted toward advanced undergraduates and early graduate students and has already attracted high enrollment.
