Endowed Constellation Faculty in Future Chips

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for the Future Chips Constellation endowed chaired faculty positions. A constellation at Rensselaer consists of an interdisciplinary team with a clear research focus led by a group of Senior and Junior faculty members, with collaborations across the campus.

We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated ability to perform high impact research in semiconductor technology to address the next generation challenges in computing. Areas of focus are rooted in fundamental science and engineering that drive advances in microelectronics, such as heterogeneous integration, advanced logic, advanced packaging, and power electronics. Physics of materials is also important to making these advances and is, therefore, an area of interest. The ideal candidates are expected to develop an internationally recognized, externally funded, scientific program in chip technology for the future of computing. The Future Chips Constellation will be a key stakeholder in the Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems (cMDIS) which houses the Microscale and Nanoscale Cleanroom and the Nanoscale Characterization Core.

Applicants must possess an outstanding record of research accomplishments and a strong commitment to teaching. At minimum, candidates must have a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in engineering, or science, or an appropriate field for their proposed research, along with the ability to demonstrate, based on their record, promise of future distinction in scholarship and education.

Successful candidates will have duties that include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, developing and maintaining robust programs of research and scholarship, and service to their department and to Rensselaer. We seek highly collaborative applicants with strong technical vision and a focus on emerging 21st century technologies and challenges.

Established in 1907, Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer is one of the first in the country.  ECSE alumni have contributed to the information and digital revolution through the invention of the digital camera, the microprocessor, the graphics processor, power electronics, electronic mail, and other key inventions.

The ECSE department awards B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer and Systems Engineering.  The Department is highly interdisciplinary, with strong educational and research connections with other Rensselaer engineering departments and departments in other disciplines such as Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and Cognitive Science, among others.  The Department has around 35 faculty, 800 undergraduates and 120 graduate students.  ECSE is one of the seven departments in the School of Engineering, which has approximately 160 faculty, 3000 undergraduates, and 700 graduate students.
