Tenure-Track Assistant and Associate Professor Positions in ECSE

The Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering (ECSE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in semiconductor technology, micro/nano-electronics, and next-generation computing. We seek visionary researchers and educators who are passionate about advancing cutting-edge technologies with real-world impact. We encourage scholars whose work aligns with:

  • Semiconductor Technology: Novel materials, device architectures, and fabrication processes. Micro/Nano-Electronics: Design, integration, and scalability for tomorrow’s electronic systems.
  • Next-Generation Computing: Neuromorphic systems, quantum computing, and bio-inspired hardware.
  • Hardware Security: Secure and resilient systems for a connected world.
Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, addressing grand challenges in areas such as energy-efficient computing, AI-accelerated hardware, or secure IoT ecosystems. A strong record of innovation—through publications, patents, or translational projects—is highly valued.

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop and maintain a robust and externally sponsored research program, and participate in activities that strengthen the department, the School, Rensselaer, and the broader professional community. New faculty will complement and augment ECSE strengths in AI/ML, microelectronics, computer system design, control, robotics, communication, networking, and power systems. New faculty can also participate in Institute-wide research initiatives, including Semiconductors, AI, Future of Computing, and Precision Medicine, and interdisciplinary centers including Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems (cMDIS), and Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES). Rensselaer is a one of the five core members of the DoD Common Hub Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH). Rensselaer is the first university campus that will host the IBM Quantum System One. ECSE is a major contributor to these efforts.

Established in 1907, Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer is one of the first in the country. ECSE alumni have contributed to the information and digital revolution by inventing the digital camera, the microprocessor, the graphics processor, power electronics, electronic mail, and more. ECSE awards B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer and Systems Engineering. The Department is highly interdisciplinary, with strong collaborations with other Rensselaer Engineering Departments and in other disciplines such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Cognitive Science. The Department has ~35 faculty, 700 undergraduates, and 120 graduate students. ECSE is one of the seven departments in the School of Engineering, which has approximately 160 faculty, 3000 undergraduates, and 700 graduate students.
