The IBM mainframe, launched in 1964 as S/360, has proven to be an enduring platform and continues to be the backbone of enterprise IT worldwide, combining leading-edge technology, unmatched reliability and availability, and robust compatibility to deliver the value needed for business-critical workloads.  This talk will highlight the design of current and upcoming IBM Z processors and describe the strategy for extending the value of IBM Z through processor performance, system scale, and acceleration of key workloads.

Charles Webb

Charles Webb is IBM Fellow for IBM Z and LinuxONE Performance and Architecture.  He joined IBM in 1983 after earning his B.S. and M.Eng. in Computer and Systems Engineering at RPI.  He has held various technical positions in performance analysis, processor design, system design, and strategy, all focused on the mainframe platform.  He holds over 60 patents, has received 3 IBM Corporate Awards, and was appointed as an IBM Fellow in 2003.
