ECSE Faculty Honored with School of Engineering Awards

Congratulations to the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering faculty, James Lü, Shayla Sawyer, and Zheyu Zhang for their School of Engineering Awards!  They will be honored during the School of Engineering Award Reception on November 17.

Outstanding Research Award for Junior Faculty: Zheyu Zhang
In only two years at RPI, Zheyu has secured seven research grants and received approval for two additional awards. Notable awards include: (1) NASA Early Career Faculty Award; (2) lead of a DOE-funded grant in collaboration with industry, national lab, and academic partners; and (3) lead of a contract supported by the Naval Nuclear Laboratory in partnership with another RPI colleague.  

Outstanding Teaching Award for Innovation in Education: Shayla Sawyer
Shayla has been a leader and champion in hands-on, design-infused engineering education with open-ended inquiry and societal awareness. She has made deep impact on student learning and engineering education.  She has also served as the ECSE ABET Coordinator, leading the department to a flawless reaccreditation recently.

Excellence in Citizenship Award: James Lu 
James has made exceptional contributions in Institute Service, Student and Community Impact, and Outcomes and Visibility.  He served as the ECSE curriculum chair since 2017.  He conceptualized, organized, and delivered two highly successful industry-focused courses on semiconductor technologies. He has played a key role in RPI's response to the CHIPS Act.
