Meng Wang and Tianyi Chen
ECSE faculty Meng Wang has been promoted to Full Professorship and Tianyi Chen to Associate Professorship with Tenure.

Professors Meng Wang has been promoted to Full Professor in ECSE.  Professor Tianyi Chen has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in ECSE.

Meng received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 2012.  She joined ECSE as an Assistant Professor in 2012 and was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in 2019.  Her research is in signal processing, smart grid, and deep learning. She has made fundamental contributions in sparse signal recovery and monitoring and control of smart grid using high frequency data from phase measurement unit (PMU). More recently, she has collaborated with IBM to produce theoretical guarantees of modern AI architectures such as graph neural networks and transformers used in the large language model (LLM).

Tianyi received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Minnesota, in 2019 and joined ECSE afterwards. H received the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best PhD Dissertation Award in 2020, the NSF CAREER Award in 2021, and Amazon Research Award in 2022. His current research addresses the theoretical and algorithmic aspects of bilevel optimization and multi-objective optimization and their applications to AI and learning problems.
