New ECSE Faculty in Fall 2022: Liu Liu, Alex Patterson, Kimberly Oakes
Liu Liu, Alex Patterson, and Kimberly Oakes join the ECSE Department in Fall 2022.

ECSE department welcomes three outstanding new faculty: Assistant Professor Liu Liu and Lecturers Alex Patterson and Kimberly Oakes  

Dr. Liu Liu received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and M.S. in Computer Engineering from University of California Santa Barbara. He received B.Eng. in Information Display and Optoelectronics from University of Electronic Science and Technology in China. Liu’s research interest lies in the intersection of computer architecture and AI/ML. He focuses on the hardware/algorithm co-design for AI/ML systems to enhance efficiency, performance, and robustness.  

Dr. Alex Patterson received his B.S. from University of Pittsburgh, M.S. and Ph.D. from MIT, all in Electrical Engineering. He worked at OSRAM Opto Semiconductor for three years before joining us. Alex’s research interest is in the modeling of nanoelectronic and photonic devices. He will be teaching courses in electronics and design.  

Dr. Kimberly Oakes received her B.S. in EE and Physics from Clarkson and Ph.D. in ECSE. Kimberly’s research interests and experience include robots with joint flexibility (space manipulators and cobots) and robots for interaction with autistic students. Kimberly will teach courses in robotics and systems and control areas.
