GlobalFoundries CEO Dr. Tom Caufield Shared Insights on Semiconductor in AI Era with President Marty Schmidt in Fireside Chat

RPI welcomed Dr. Tom Caulfield, CEO of GlobalFoundries to campus for a Fireside Chat with President Marty Schmidt ’81. The event celebrates the successful delivery of the Fabrication Technology for Semiconductor Manufacturing course for the third time. The course is part of the innovative industry-collaborated courses in semiconductor technology developed by ECSE Professor James Lu to support semiconductor curriculum in RPI and workforce development effort at NORDTech. James Lu was recognized by GlobalFoundries with a plaque for his leadership and dedication.
On April 17, RPI welcomed Dr. Tom Caulfield, CEO of GlobalFoundries to campus for a Fireside Chat with President Marty Schmidt ’81. RPI VP for Research Dr. Robert Hull was the moderator. The event is a perfect cap-off of the Fabrication Technology for Semiconductor Manufacturing course, which was supported by lectures given by more than 10 technical experts from GlobalFoundries. Dr. Caulfield shared invaluable insights on semiconductors in the AI era, sparking dynamic conversations about the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

ECSE faculty Prof. James Lu spearheaded the successful creation and delivery of two innovative industry-collaborated courses in semiconductor technology. He was recognized with a plaque of appreciation from GlobalFoundries. The plague states: "GlobalFoundries GF Labs Workforce Development Initiative Presents to Dr. James Lu, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: In recognition of your outstanding leadership in building a model industry-academic partnership strengthening the semiconductor workforce development pipeline."
 
GlobalFoundries instructors and ECSE faculty had a group dinner to celebrate the successful delivery of the course for the third time.
