ECSE Prof. Birsen Yazici Elevated to Fellow of IEEE

Birsen Yazici, a professor of electrical, computer, and systems engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been elevated to the level of fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

According to IEEE, fewer than 0.1% of voting members are chosen each year to receive this honor.

Yazici earns this distinction for her contribution to synthetic aperture radar and passive imaging. Her work in the areas of statistical signal processing, inverse problems in imaging, biomedical optics, applied mathematics, and radar, have applications in remote sensing and medical imaging.

Yazici holds 11 U.S. patents for her work. She is currently a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society; an elected member of three IEEE Signal Processing Society technical committees; and an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging and IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems.
