ECSE Professor Emeritus John Woods was honored with the IEEE ICIP Pioneer Award in Taipei, Taiwan, 9/22-9/25, at the 25th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP). The award is bestowed on Prof. Woods "for unparalleled leadership and contributions to the image processing community."

John Wen, the head of the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, was recently honored at an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) workshop on advances in the fields of control and smart automation, an area in which Wen has made significant contributions.
Three long time ECSE faculty: Ken Connor, Art Sanderson, and Mike Wozny, have been recognized by Rensselaer as Emeritus Professors. All three new emeritus professors have served ECSE as department heads: Art Sanderson 1987-1994, Ken Connor 2001-2008, Mike Wozny 2014-2018.
A GE plant tour was organized for the ECSE 2110 (Electrical Energy Systems) Summer III students to show them the actual hardware that gets built for electric power generation.
Professor Meng Wang was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in the ECSE department starting July 1 2019. Prof. Wang's work has been recognized by the Army Research Office Young Investigator Program (YIP) Award and the Rensselaer School of Engineering Faculty Research Excellence Award. Prof. Wang has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Army Research Office (ARO), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute, Energy Power Research Institute (EPRI), NSF/DoE Engineering Research Center for Ultra-Wide- Area Resilient Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT), Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES), and RPI-IBM Artificial Intelligence Research Collaboration (AIRC).
ECSE Professor Emeritus Michael I. Savic, age 89, died in Atlanta, Georgia on June 24, 2019. He was born in Belgrade, Serbia, and immigrated to the United States in 1967.
