Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and GlobalFoundries (Nasdaq: GFS) (GF) launched a new higher education course to help address semiconductor industry education and workforce development needs. The course, Topics in Microelectronics Manufacturing, is targeted toward advanced undergraduates and early graduate students and has already attracted high enrollment.

ECSE Co-term student Nico Altomare has been awarded the 2023 Analog Devices Outstanding Student Designer Award. The award is given to a graduate student in IC design, and will be given to them before 2023 ISSCC.

ECSE PhD Students Syed Ahsan Raza Naqvi and Ming Yi were both honored as recipients of the Founders Award of Excellence at the 28th Annual Honors Convocation. The Founders Award of Excellence was established in 1994 to honor students who embody the qualities of creativity, discovery, and leadership, and the values of pride and responsibility at Rensselaer. The award consists of a special certificate, recognition by faculty, staff, and peers at the Honors Convocation ceremony, and a cash prize.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will launch the Douglas A. Mercer ’77 Innovation and Exploration Laboratory at 10:30 a.m. on November 9 at the Russell Sage Dining Hall.

Congratulations to ECSE’s Tianyi Chen for receiving an Amazon Research Award for his proposal “Automating Decentralized Machine Learning via Bilevel Optimization.” The Amazon Research Awards is a program that provides unrestricted funds and AWS Promotional Credits to academic researchers investigating research topics across a number of disciplines.
